Personally I can relate to several of these incredible and inspiringly powerful creations. I also feel the universal impact of this pieces of expression and the truth in their words and representations. Honestly sometimes I really feel the strength of being told as a woman to smile and conform, the reality is that conformity is an illusion and also in truth not a remotely appealing one to me. How can anyone truly fit a model they were not designed for? To try to be or act, look or live as something or someone other than who and how you are is to do yourself harm. The most beautiful thing in the world is self acceptance, although admittedly one of the most difficult things to achieve. Personally I am at my happiest when I can just breath out everything that is holding me back and settle into myself, even if this only last a moment and then just as fast I once again feel the weight of my reality, in that moment I am who I am. I think for me these illustrations really sing this load and clear, be who you are and who you are is perfect.
Designed and illustrated by Brazilian graphic designer Carol Rossetti.
Fantastically this as yet unnamed and frankly not in need of a designated name, the message is load enough, was originally written in Portuguese. After teaming with an Australian woman the text of the illustrations was translated to English. Snowballing from this a group of Israeli feminists took it upon themselves to create versions of the illustrations in Hebrew. And so it continues as more people have reached out to Rossetti through Facebook and offered to translate her work into an array of colourfully diverse languages.
Here are the illustrations and accompanying messages, I was impacted by all of these, allow yourself to experience something also, whatever it may be:
